Post Outline:

The Challenges Manager role requires an outstanding level of administration and organisational skills. Creating and managing a successful challenges calendar inline with the targeted sales set. 

You will take responsibility for the Challenges experience ensuring each challenge event meets the expectations of the charity and the guest or sponsor.

You will be a conscientious, motivated, a natural confident communicator and problem solver, working in a results driven environment. You will be able to self-administrate and to work as part of the wider fundraising team. 

You will require the ability to stay calm under pressure, to deal with sensitive issues and circumstances in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.

The role requires significant flexibility as most events take place out of normal working hours across the UK, therefore you will be required to travel extended distances on occasions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute and support other events where applicable. 
  • Research and present challenge ideas, structure, concepts and proposals in line with charities ISO 9001 Event policy.
  • Create new challenges, add to existing challenge events and support ‘in aid of’ events in order to build our existing calendar of diverse national fundraising events to 
  • Achieve financial targets and create awareness of the charitable organisation
  • Increase participation across a series of challenge events such as Skydives, Shark Dives, Treks, etc. through active marketing, then maintaining contact with participants to offer support and encourage fundraising. 
  • Plan, project manage and execute all challenge events to an extremely high standard.
  • Research and present fundraising events to Corporates to gain sponsorship for events.
  • Support the event sales team in selling events, tables, teams and places at events in person or over the phone, and B2B and B2C.
  • Negotiate with and manage third party suppliers and contractors
  • Manage profit and loss and budget management for your own challenge events.
  • Ensure challenge events are delivered within and comply with all necessary Health and Safety regulations and Public Liability.
  • Manage challenge event resources and produce documentation including reports, statistics and accounts for the department
  • Analyse post challenge event, looking at ROI, getting feedback from stakeholders to benchmark and improve events for the future.
  • Report weekly against objectives and financial targets
  • Developing profitable relationships with corporate supporters & sponsors in collaboration with the partnerships team. 
  • Responsible for the financial delivery of the challenge events 
  • Adhere to timelines for thanking process, provision of information to internal stakeholders and event completion (e.g. Banking, reconciliation) 
  • Maintaining and updating the CRM system 
  • Manage your own administration for your events and challenges in a timely way
  • Deputise for the Senior Events Manager when required. 


  • 3 years experience and a passion for events.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing multiple events / projects / campaigns with competing deadlines 
  • Charity, third sector or public sector events experience
  • Experience of supporter / customer focused role within a team environment. 
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Written and Oral presentation skills. 
  • Ability to establish systems and processes to enable smooth coordination of activities.
